A warm-up activity

Read this quote. How do you understand it?

All creativity builds upon something that existed before and every work of art is essentially a derivative work. (Nina Paley)

Let’s watch the clip! 🎥

Play this video from 11:18 to 12:02. Try to understand the general meaning. Don’t focus too much on specific words just yet.

Exercise 1 - Complete the gaps

Watch the clip again and as you watch, try to fill in the gaps.

"This was the first time you felt like you were taking some control in your life. You were doing something that you wanted to do. Something that you ...."

"It changed everything, .... I uploaded one ... of a whole game: Amnesia The Dark Descent and then I made a compilation video of it because I ... other people make this compilation of scare reactions for Amnesia and I was like "I wanna do something like that." I really, truly don't think there's anything wrong with people ... art."

"Every single ... art is influenced by another ... art"

"It's .... Everything, the human experience is .... That doesn't mean it's ... because of it. That means it's greater.

"It's necessary for evolution."

"Absolutely. Yeah, you have to build on what comes before and I'm using it to justify my shitty reaction compilation that I made. It is just as good as the other one.”
